Development of the well-built Lake Cane area in Doctor Phillips began in 1959 and went through the 1970s. The community consists of three sub-divisions, Lake Cane Estates, Lake Cane Hills, and Lake Cane Shores. The quiet, established neighborhood consists of mostly 3 and 4 bedroom ranch style homes starting at about 1,400 square feet. Residents can ski, fish, or swim in private Lake Cane with membership in the optional homeowner's association. Membership includes use of the boat ramp and fishing pier to one of the cleanest spring fed lakes in Dr. Phillips.

Situated close to I-4 makes for easy access to Downtown Orlando, Sea World, Walt Disney World, and Downtown Disney.
